Materials for language awareness

 

Hello everybody! I want to give you some information about language awareness tasks and corpus. As you know, anybody hasn't learned his mother language with the help of explicit teaching. S/he discovered many of the rules about language by himself. While teaching English or any language, teachers need to take it into consideration. So, teachers need to produce language awareness tasks for their students, and corpus might be helpful while they are designing their tasks. Let's talk about what corpus is. Corpus is a collection of linguistic data of written texts or transcription of recorded speech.  It provides the data from which learners discover patterns for themselves. There are many website you can find corpus like Skell, Lextutor, and English-Corpora.org. Our task is creating a language awareness handout for students. Language awareness task is giving some grammar or vocabulary to explore our students and they are going to find out how to use these grammar rules or vocabulary. And we created a handout for our students with my friend Hazal. You can see our handout by clicking here. We will explain how to use Skell in the classroom. So, we didn't explain it. They are going to fill in the table with the help of corpus and discover the rules. Then, they will practice it with the help of the activities that are from controlled to semi-controlled.

 

HELLO AGAIN!

 Hi everybody! It is nice to keep blogging after a long time. In case you don't know about me, I want to introduce myself briefly. I am Ayşe, I'm studying at Marmara University, Department of English Language Teaching. This is my third year in this department. I  used to keep blogging for my Educational Technologies course, and now it is time to use it for Mateial Design course. My Educational Technologies course was about producing something as a student, and now it is time to produce materials as a teacher. I will probably be working on 4 materials and will be sharing them via my blog. I'm really excited about this course, as I will be learning the latest methods about materials such as corpus based material design and flipping the classroom. If you are ready, I will share my first post about corpus based material very soon.

Hi everybody!
We come to an end for this semester, and this is my final post. Educational Tehnologies class is really helpful for me to learn how to integrate technology while teaching language. Before I attend this course I did not know even how to write a post on blog sites. Now I now how to use it. It is really beneficial to observe the learning process. As students we used the technology to create something and I love it the most. However, as I don't use technology so much I had difficulty while creating podcast and digital story. There might be some more instruction how to create them about the applications. It was really challenging for me. On the other hand, it was a really wonderful experience for me. I can use many of the information that I learn during the class. I learned that we must use them for a purpose. Without a purpose it is meanless to use them. Just giving homework like read this page is not enough. Because we are going to teach different levels of students. They cannot be in the same level. If we do not say their purpose they probably feel overwhelmed. In the past, my teachers tried to use technology as a teaching tool, but they did not know how to use them. So I usually could not accomplish that tasks. I know the importance of giving detailed and clear instruction. Thank you all so much to follow me. I hope you all enjoyed my posts. Today's topic is infographic. This week,  we observed many tools to create something like comics, posters, infographics, and so on during our Educational Technologies class. Now my task is creating an infographic. Let's learn what infographic is first. It is a visual representation of information or data. I created an infographic about my favorite web 2.0 tools. MOVIE POSTER

Hi everybody,
 Today's task is creating a movie poster. I chose one of my favorite book Lord of The Flies. Then I created a poster as if it is adopted to a movie and I am responsible for its advertising. I found quotes from the book. I added them to my poster. I wrote writer's name as a director and also myself as a producer.  I use Canva to create my poster. You can use Canva for many goals. Digital Storytelling

Hi everybody!
 Today's topic is digital storytelling.It is another wonderful and enjoyable way to learn second language. The teacher can simply choose an easy topic and tell students to create a story about this topic. Then, the teacher should find the necessary websites to turn them a digital story. He/she may want help from technology teachers.
 I created a digital story with my friend Orçun for my Educational Technologies class. The story is about a girl who lost her exam paper. It is a story for childeren. I hope you enjoy it. Have a nice day..:)

Internet-based Project

  Hi everybody! Today's topic is internet-based project. We learn how to make an internet-based project in language classes. It is an enjoyable way to improve our student's English. However, we need to be careful about something. For instance, It is important to give students the pages that  they should use. Because we are going to be a teacher of lower English level student generally. They will  probably not find the proper pages. We should also give the website that they are going to work on.

  We have an internet-based project for this week for Educational Technologies class. My friends and I creat a KWL chart on Padlet. Our topic is gender inequality in language. There are many languages, but we cannot have evaluated all languages, so we choose one of them which is English. I knew that there are many marked terms in English language, however; I didn't know the exact words, how many words there are, and why they are the reason of inequality.
